The State University of Malang (Indonesian: Universitas Negeri Malang, abbreviated as UM), formerly the Institute of Teacher Education and Educational Sciences of Malang (Indonesian: Institut Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Malang, abbreviated as IKIP Malang), is one of the state universities in Indonesia. Located in Malang and Blitar, East Java, UM was established in October 18, 1954 as PTPG Malang, as School of Education of Airlangga University, making it one of the oldest teaching institutes in Indonesia. UM was separated from Airlangga University on 20 May 1964 to become IKIP Malang. In 1999, IKIP Malang formally changed its status from an institute to a state university. UM is a leading university in Indonesia with more than 30,000 students. In 2010, UM ranked 6th as the best university in Indonesia by Webometrics. UM was accredited as an A-Class University by the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education (BAN-PT) with a score of 372 points in 2015.

Welcome to State University of Malang (UM)

State University of Malang (UM), previously known as the Institute of Teacher Training and Education (IKIP) Malang, is one of the largest and most famous universities among the 13 former Educational Personnel Education Institutions (LPTK) in Indonesia. UM was inaugurated since 1999, that is, since IKIP Malang received a mandate extension to become a university so that IKIP Malang changed to Malang State University (UM). The main campus of UM is located in Malang City which is a cool educational city and very comfortable for studying, a tourism city, and the second largest city in East Java Province.

Currently UM is experiencing a very rapid development. In fact, currently UM has become a superior campus and has become a reference in the field of science and technology, especially in the field of education. Therefore, UM remains proud to dedicate itself to education and learning.

With the nuances of campus life and the city of Malang which are conducive and supported by the large number of lecturers with academic qualifications of professors and doctors, educational facilities and infrastructure that are mostly digital-based, as well as centers for the development of education, learning, research, and reliable community service, UM has succeeded in delivering its students to become bachelors, masters, and doctorates in various study programs that are ready to face the global world.
